On the title

A Harmonion is neither a musician nor a listener; it is what a person becomes at the point where the two can no longer be told apart, the one for whom dissonance has ceased to be a threat and become a language. In the closing novelette it is also a unit of measure: the smallest interval within which a sound and the world can agree.

In music, dissonance is not disorder but tension that has not yet found its resolution. The collection does not dissolve the strange by explaining it. It moves the reader, story by story, from resistance to attention, from the desire to control what is seen to the more difficult discipline of listening to it. Some tensions resolve. With more than thirty years of experience in architectural design leadership and multidisciplinary project delivery, he has contributed to major mixed-use, residential, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, educational, cultural, governmental and sports developments across the Middle East.

He holds a PhD, an MBA, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Alexandria University. His architectural and academic writing explores space efficiency, design performance, urban memory, and the relationship between measurable systems and human experience.

As Saad da Alex, he explores memory, identity, perception, consciousness, music, space, and the unseen relationships connecting people, places and ideas. The name Saad da Alex is a nod to Alexandria, in the manner of da Vinci.
